It Started with Finnegan
The first vest was made in a moment of desperation while watching my beloved German Shepherd, Finnegan, rapidly develop mobility issues with his back legs due to kidney disease. Sometimes just getting out of his bed was a challenge and I never knew when he would need a hand, so it had to be something that could be worn all the time.
There are plenty of harnesses on the market that have handles on top, but I just didn't feel good about having him wear something with a lot of straps and buckles that would rub against his skin or make it uncomfortable for him to lay down. I had some neoprene, mesh, webbing and velcro, and the equipment to sew it, so I took some measurements and got to work.

A Simple Idea That Made A Big Difference
By the next day, he was happily wearing the vest and waiting for me to grab the handle any time we had to navigate steps, get in or out of the car, or even make it up a steep hill. What a game changer! I knew then we had created something special, and it immediately made a huge difference in his quality of life.
When his vet saw how much it helped him, she commented that I really should be selling them, and so Finnegan’s Cape was born.
